of military memorbillia at Glasgow University (founded 1451). Mikey is particularly interested in the rise
in value of Militaria, from being objects of war and propoganda to their value
on the secondary collectors market.
Mikey is also interested in the business history of the companies that
made the items. He is an expert in
identifying fakes and reproductions.
His interest stems from watching war films and playing with toy soldiers
since childhood. Mikey is interested in
the design of British and Scottish cap badges, medals, medallions and Imperial
and WWII German regalia. He has no
interest in current politics of any movement promoting war, racism or
discrimination.

Mikey urges Hitler paintings to be tested.
Paintings attributed to Hitler were sold at a
Shropshire auction on Thursday the 23 April for over £95000.
The auctioneer said that no scientific testing had
been carried out on them, despite their being a “Hitler Self portrait” (There
has been no documentary proof that Hitler ever painted self portraits).
Mikey thinks we owe it to the holocaust survivors
and victims, to ensure that any Hitler art offered for sale is original, in
order not to falsify history. Mikey is
calling for the auction to conduct tests on the paintings or for the new buyers
to do so.
Mikey was involved in another hoard of Hitler
paintings sold in Cornwall, where he discovered that serious questions arose
regarding authenticity. He expressed
his concerns on BBC2 Newsnight and also German State Radio.
Mikey is available to comment on the latest find,
the market in Nazi and Hitler artefacts and the importance of making sure every
effort has been made to ensure the items are original.

Mikey has no political sympathies with the Third
Reich, and as Mikey is blind, under the Nazi T4 programme, Mikey (who lost his
sight via a genetic condition), may have been exterminated.
Mikey is interested in hearing from veterans about
the items they have brought back after the war. He can also advise families that have been left German and
British military items, as to their value.
Mikey is interested in the story behind the memorabilia, just as much as
hearing about the artefacts themselves.
Mikey plans to write a book on the research,
containing pictures of Militaria that has been brought-back from veterans or
handed down to families. It will show
the development of the industry and include interviews with current-day collectors,
dealers and auction houses. It will
estimate the value of the market and indicate investment potential.

Mikey hopes that his interest in Militaria and
military history does not cause offence, as it is not politically motivated, as
was mentioned earlier Mikey may have been killed under the Nazi regime but is
still interested in the design of it’s regalia. It is hoped that by studying such a subject, a better
understanding can be gained, in order that similar atrocities don’t happen in
the future. It should be pointed out
that Mikey does not actually collect or sell Nazi Militaria and is interested
in the items for his PhD project.
Mikey has considerable media experience and is an
ideal authority to be consulted on Nazi Germany. He appeared on BBC TV on the news night programme, denouncing
paintings attributed to Adolf Hitler as being fake. He has had several articles published in the Armourer Magazine on
military collectibles. Mikey also
recently interviewed a Jewish man who was blinded by a Hitler Youth member during
the 1930’s. This was to mark a new
memorial commissioned to mark the Nazi persecution of disabled people during
the Third Reich. Mikey can comment on
the latest Nazi related celebrity scandal e.g. Tom Cruise film Valkyrie about
the 1944 failed bomb plot to kill Hitler, Prince Harry dressing up as a Nazi,
Bryan Ferry saying that the Nazi marches were beautiful, Max Mosley and the
Nazi sex dungeon, rows over auctions selling Nazi memorabilia, academic comment
on the Third Reich and advice to film and Television companies on the use of
Nazi uniforms in films.
